Solid finish in weekend MS forensics tourney

web forensicsThe middle school forensics team place third overall out of 18 schools at the fall tournament held at Okemos High School Nov. 18. 

The 44-member team had a great time in Okemos, with 12 capturing a semifinalist position and 24 earning a finalist position in their events. Twenty students ranked first in at least one round.

Highlights included two first-place finishes: Saiprashanth Rajesth in the extemporaneous category; and Nathan Burke, James Kluge, Fiona Lin, Yasmeen Ogaily, Fatima Shah, Katie Swallow, and Emma Van Alstine for their effort, “Princess Bride,” in the multiple category.

Forensics lead coach Barb Ebeling thanked fellow coaches Caroline Huntoon, Gary Lehman, Marsha Mumm, Monica Lewis, alumnus Tyler Hoff ’10, and nearly 20 upper school forensic team members for their efforts this year.

Team members said they learned a lot from the experience.

“I learned that I should be early for a round of competition, stick to my script, and slow down,” said Nate Gajar, who participated in a forensics tournament for the first time. “It’s important to enjoy the experience!”
