Greenhills senior a semifinalist in national math, science and tech competition

header-logoJulian Wellman has been selected as a semifinalist in this year’s Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology for the project he completed for his Greenhills Advanced Research course.

Julian, a senior this year, studied the maximum length of order-s Davenport Schinzel sequences. He was one of only two students from schools throughout the city – and 150 individuals, nationwide – to reach the semifinals. Students from around the country submitted more than 1,600 projects.

The Siemens Foundation established the Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology in 1999. The competition is the nation’s premier science research competition for high school students and seeks to promote excellence by encouraging students to undertake individual or team research projects. The contest fosters intensive research that improves students’ understanding of the value of scientific study and informs their consideration of future careers in these disciplines. Scholarships for winning projects range from $1,000 to $100,000.
