Visiting Writer Matt Bell to Work with English Classes

The 2010-11 Visiting Writer, author Matt Bell, will make his first weeklong visit next week, Nov. 1-5.

“I am excited for Matt to work with our students,” says English teacher Chris Erickson. “Our students will benefit from his experience as a short story writer and in publishing. I am extra excited for our students interested in science fiction as many of Matt’s stories are part of this genre.”

Bell will be working with many English classes that are currently studying short stories, including the Senior Short Story class, and the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English classes. He will also be holding lunch office hours on Monday, will work with the SPEAK poetry club, and will hold one-on-one meetings with students.

Bell is the author of How They Were Found, a collection of stories from Keyhole Press, as well as three chapbooks,Wolf Parts (Keyhole Press), The Collectors (Caketrain Press), and How the Broken Lead the Blind (Willows Wept Press). His fiction has appeared in Conjunctions, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Willow Springs, Unsaid, and American Short Fiction, and has been selected for Best American Mystery Stories 2010 and Best American Fantasy 2. His book reviews and critical essays have appeared in The Los Angeles TimesAmerican Book Review, and The Quarterly Conversation. He is also the editor of The Collagist and of Dzanc’s Best of the Web anthology series.

Bell holds a B.A. from Oakland Univeristy and an M.F.A. from Bowling Green University.  He is currently a graduate instructor at Bowling Green.
