Two Greenhills juniors earn Optimist awards
The Breakfast Optimist Club of Ann Arbor recognized two leading Greenhills students with its Harold Eastman Outstanding Youth Achievement Award at a morning ceremony Wednesday.
The awards take into account academic achievement, leadership, industry and community service and went to Allison Pinto ’17 and Jack Urquhart ’17.
Allison is an active student at Greenhills, having earned the Greenhills Award and the Greenhills Scholar Award, served as a class officer the last two years, and worked hard in a variety of sports, where she earned All-State Honorable Mention in field hockey. She also participates in the service learning club and forensics. She hopes to pursue a career in biomedical engineering.
Jack also earned the Greenhills Award and the Greenhills Scholar Award, as well as serving as a founder and president of the gardening club. He’s a member of both the National Ocean Science Bowl and National Science Bowl teams, he runs cross country, and he performs with the Greenhills theater program. In addition to helping maintain the school’s greenhouse, he works at a nearby Christmas tree farm. He hopes to pursue a career in marine biology.
