Two earn National Merit Scholarships
Congratulations to Greenhills seniors Andrew Gitlin and Francesca Lupia, both awarded scholarships by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation this month.
Lupia and Gitlin numbered among only 13 Washtenaw County recipients of the scholarships, which are funded directly by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. About 15,000 students nationwide were finalists for the awards this year; 2,500 earned the $2,500 awards.
Gitlin and Lupia were chosen by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors based on academic record, scores from standardized tests, leadership in school and community, an essay, and a personal recommendation.
More awardees will be named May 28 and July 14.
