Students cut ribbon on renovated entrance
A new school day helped mark a new beginning for Greenhills this week as students, parents, alumni and faculty gathered to celebrate the opening of the school’s renovated and expanded main entrance.
The Tuesday morning ceremony featured a performance by Greenhills vocal arts students, remarks by Board of Trustees President David Huntoon and Head of School Carl Pelofsky, and a poem read jointly by longtime teachers Orelia Dann, Jim Blow, and Tom Friedlander.
Then came the moment of truth, as Student Council President Allie Chatas and randomly selected students helped Mr. Pelofsky cut the ribbon with a gigantic pair of scissors. Dean of Students Luke Jansen and history teacher Steve Jones then unveiled a surprise set into the floor of the entryway: a brushed-stainless steel capital G. There were more surprises inside, where new artwork reflecting the history of the school lined the corridor and a prominent new reception area and business offices waited for the 560-some students assembled on the dewy grass.
They spotted those new features when they filed back into the building. Through the new entrance, of course.
