Optimists honor two Greenhills students

Academic achievement, leadership, industry and community service have earned two Greenhills students the Harold Eastman Outstanding Youth Achievement Award from the Breakfast Optimist Club of Ann Arbor.

Honorees are Jackie Stokes, the 16-year old daughter of Teresa and Jeffrey Stokes of Milan, and Grant Kiefaber, the 16-year-old son of Leslie and Clay Kiefaber of Ann Arbor.

Jackie Stokes previously attended Brick Elementary School and Greenhills Middle School. While at Greenhills Middle School, she earned the Greenhills award and was a Greenhills scholar. She participates in the Service Club and the National Ocean Sciences Bowl and is captain of the field hockey team, as well as playing basketball and softball.

Outside school, she enjoys cooking, baking, reading, Greek dancing, football and U-M sports. She’s affiliated with the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Choir, the Greek Orthodox Youth Association, and Oratorical festival. While in high school, she has worked as a referee for field hockey and basketball games.

Grant Kiefaber previously attended Emerson Elementary School, where he received the citizenship award. Currently he participates in the Model U.N., the SLAM service learning program, and holds a committee position for Service Day at Greenhills. Additionally, he’s captain of the lacrosse and swim teams. During summers, he’s held employment with CMB Property Management Company, where he does grounds work and moves furniture.

After graduating from Greenhills, Grant plans to go to college and major in mechanical engineering. He hopes to join the military after college.
