Musical variety is watchword at Winter Showcase
The first of four December music events at Greenhills drew a healthy crowd Wednesday night as student musicians from all grades gathered for the Winter Showcase.
The show featured performances by the Sixth Grade Orchestra, the Seventh and Eighth Grade Orchestra, the Upper School Orchestra. Soloists included violinist Stuart Atkinsmith ’20, during the First Movement of Vivaldi’s Concerto in A Minor, Op. 3, No. 6, as well as cellist Juliano Stewart ’14 playing J.S. Bach’s Suite No. 2 (Gigue, 1720).
Pianist Anvit Rao ’20 played his own composition, “Through the Ebony Woods,” which won the 2013 Michigan Music Education Association’s Honors Competition. Audience participation was also a component, with Conductor John Goodell leading parents and family members through a rousing and somehow musical game of chickens and eagles.
Photos of the concert are available on the Greenhills Flickr page.
December concerts continue tonight with an all-school choir concert, and on Tuesday, Dec. 10 with a Middle School band concert which also will highlight the 6th grade band, and a jazz showcase featuring all the Upper School jazz groups on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
