Katherine Selwa ’12 Named Intel Semifinalist
Katherine Selwa ’12 was recently named one of 300 semifinalists in the 2012 Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS). The semifinalists were chosen from among 1,839 entrants representing 497 high schools in 44 states, the District of Columbia, and three overseas schools. Katherine was one of only seven semifinalists from Michigan.
As a semifinalist, Katherine will receive a $1,000 award for her research project Epigenetic Regulation of Inflammatory Responses. Greenhills will also receive a $1,000 award to use to further excellence in our science and math programs.
From this group of 300 semifinalists, 40 finalists will be chosen to attend the Intel Science Talent Institute in Washington, D.C. March 8–13. During their trip to Washington, the finalists will undergo further judging and share $630,000 in awards.
“This is a huge honor for Katherine and Greenhills,” says head of upper school and science teacher Cathy Renaud. “We are extremely proud of Katherine and wish her luck in the next round.”
