Grandparents Have Grand Time Visiting School

Grandparents Have Grand Time Visiting School

More than 150 grandparents and special friends turned out for Grandparents’ Day today, filling the halls and classrooms as they shadowed their special student through his or her day.

Many guests participated fully in classroom activities — engaging in small group discussions, singing with the chorus, or observing a Chinese ribbon dance. Guests also attended a special mid-morning assembly that featured performances by the orchestra, jazz band, and middle and upper school choirs.

“Grandparents’ Day is special because it gives grandparents the chance to connect with their grandchildren in a way they wouldn’t be able to do normally,” says head of upper school Cathy Renaud.  “They get to see their grandchild learning, rather than just simply playing. It’s a chance to get to know them better and understand what their school day is like.”

“We drove three hours to be here and we wouldn’t have missed it for the world,” said Carol Crumb of Douglas, Mich., grandmother of Hannah Parrish ’19.  “We’re former public school educators so it’s been especially fun to see the school, and I have to say, we’re very impressed.  The small class sizes are wonderful.”
