Gary Heitman wins first Gryphon Booster Award
Head of School Carl Pelofsky presented parent Gary Heitman with the first-ever Gryphon Booster Award at a special athletics assembly Monday morning.
The Gryphon Booster Award recognizes the parent volunteer who has demonstrated outstanding school spirit and dedication to Greenhills athletics.
Heitman has been involved with Greehills athletics for 11 years. His daughter, Ashley ’09, was a Gryphon basketball, volleyball and softball player, and his son, Derek ’13, plays soccer, basketball and baseball. From 2009-2011, Heitman was president of the Greenhills Booster Club, which, with his hard work, has become the largest parent fundraising organization at Greenhills.
He is also an enthusiastic supporter of our annual auction and other school events, and in 2006 he founded the Krystal Heitman Memorial Endowment in honor of his late wife, a beloved Greenhills parent and staff member. This important endowment supports events and activities, helping students fully participate in all Greenhills has to offer.
“Gary has spent countless hours on the sidelines of our courts and fields, helping build Greenhills spirit and cheering on all our athletes,” said Pelofsky. “A great ambassador for our teams, he’s always happy to keep score at basketball games, work in the Gryphon Den or greet and escort officials and visiting teams. On behalf of the entire school community, thank you, Gary, for everything you’ve done for Greenhills.”
