Director Nancy Heusel Honored at Final Show

When the curtain closed this weekend on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, it also closed on the end of the 40-year career of its director, Nancy Heusel.

Heusel was celebrated onstage immediately following Saturday night’s show. Theatre director Emily Wilson-Tobin ’96 and history teacher Steve Jones ’76 shared their long and special history with Heusel; both faculty members were directed by Heusel as students.

“A big part of the reason why I’m in theatre today is because of you and the impact you had on me,” Wilson-Tobin told her.

Head of school Carl Pelofsky presented Heusel with a gift and read memories from alums who wrote in to wish Heusel well, including Liz Meriwether ’00, now a screenwriter in New York:  “Thank you, Mrs. Heusel, for your love of the theater. It was contagious. You changed my life. Congratulations on your amazing career.”

“I’ve enjoyed every minute,” Heusel told the audience before continuing the celebration at a reception in the dining hall.  “I’m really going to miss this school.”
