Cum Laude inductees honored
Greenhills students, parents, and faculty gathered Thursday morning to honor and celebrate the 15 newest members of the international Cum Laude Society. The society, dedicated to honoring scholastic achievement in secondary schools, welcomed six seniors and nine juniors into membership at a morning ceremony in the Campbell Center. Students were introduced by English teacher and Grade 10 Principal Mark Randolph.
“This is an extraordinary day of joy and satisfaction for a number of our students,” Randolph said. He also noted that Greenhills culture encouraged students who weren’t being recognized to gather in support of those who were.
Speaking to the assembly was Dr. Jabeen (Siddiqui) Hamzavi ’88, an internal medicine specialist who attributed her success—and that of the inductees—to the kind of grit students learn at home and at Greenhills.
The Cum Laude Society has nearly 400 chapters in public and independent schools in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, England, France, and Spain. It was founded in 1906 and modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, the university honor society founded at William and Mary in 1776. This year’s Greenhills Cum Laude Society honorees included: Class of 2014
