Convocation highlights student priorities
Greenhills students donned their best clothes this week in honor of this year’s Convocation, led by the Class of 2015.
The Special Dress Day event, held Monday in the Campbell Center for the Performing Arts, featured talks by faculty members and some seniors, including Class President Charles Rivkin, who urged underclassmen to take advantage of seniors’ experience by asking them a lot of questions.
“We are all students, struggling with classes and life just the same as the rest of you,” Rivkin said.
Other student speakers included Alex Reeves, who discussed academics, Ross
Scheinberg on Greenhills athletics, Alaina Riker on the arts, and Maddie Caughey on service.
Like a couple of other speakers, Reeves touched on service while discussing the importance of Greenhills’ academic programs.
“Class of 2015, this is my challenge to you: this year, we will set a standard for academic achievement and leadership,” he said. “We will excel in our studies … we will tutor other students to ensure success, and we will do it as a school, leading and encouraging.”
Head of School Carl Pelofsky, Head of Middle School Jonathan Schwartz, and Dean of Students Luke Jansen spoke, as well, as did Senior Class Principal Bruce Zellers.
“The seniors sit on the stage behind me because we honor the work they’ve already done,” Zellers said. “Their successful leadership will produce a great year for everyone—and for themselves.”
