2012-13 Annual Fund Kickoff Scores Record Giving
While high winds howled outside, on Tuesday morning, October 30, more than 150 people gathered to take the Annual Fund kickoff by storm, donating a record $73,491. Combined with pre-campaign donations, that places the Annual Fund well on its way to its $325,000 goal for the year.
During Tuesday’s kickoff program, guest speaker Adam Baru ’89, who moved back to Ann Arbor in 2010 to open Mani Osteria & Bar, shared how happy he is to be back in touch with Greenhills — the place, he says, that taught him to push beyond his comfort zones and to become a leader.
“Greenhills contributed mightily to the person I am today,” said Baru. “Critical thinking, drive, leadership, and most importantly, self-awareness, emphathy and humility. I credit Greenhills with laying that foundation.”
Other highlights of the morning included a breakfast serenade by the Greenhills jazz band, a spirited opening number by the Greenhills chamber singers, “Zombie Jamboree,” remarks by senior John Lazarsfeld, and a special video presentation produced and directed by junior Gus Nordhielm.
The Annual Fund helps provide essential resources to meet yearly operating expenses. Donors’ support for the Annual Fund ultimately reduces pressure on tuition, ensuring that a Greenhills experience remains accessible to a wide variety of promising students.
