Greenhills 7th-grader acts in independent film
Greenhills 7th-grader Sarah Grace Cattell is heading up to Flint this weekend to work on a new indie short film being created by one of the producers of the TV show “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”
Once complete, the film, “The Teacher and the Student,” should last about 20 minutes. Director, writer, and co-producer Mary Ellen Jones hopes to have it ready to screen at festivals this fall, with an eye toward fleshing out the story if it catches the right set of eyes. The film is about a bullied girl who becomes a Broadway star, thanks in part to the lessons taught her by a homeless man she befriends—a man who happens to be a former star himself, now fallen on hard times. It’s not Sarah Grace’s first experience as a performer. She recently played Dorothy in an Ann Arbor-area production of The Wizard of Oz, among many other roles, and also competes on the Greenhills forensics team, conducts voice training, and participates in Michigan’s Solo & Ensemble Festival.
