More fun with music at All Orchestras concert

A nearly full house packed the Campbell Center Tuesday evening for the All Orchestras Winter Concert.The orchestras, conducted by Greenhills music teacher John Goodell, performed a wide variety of music, from John Caponegro’s foot-stomping Shoe Symphony to the traditional American Shaker hymn, “Simple Gifts.”

Also featured were “Boogie Man Blues,” with soloists Stuart Atkinsmith, Ian Dopp, Kaan Oral, Anvit Rao, and Zoya Uzzaman, and the Finale (Vivace)from Franz Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 101.

But music wasn’t all that was on the agenda. So was learning, as well as some miscellaneous fun. Goodell ran the audience through a basic sight-reading exercise on the Campbell Center’s projector, and also showed a comical video highlighting the long-term commitment and ability to overcome all obstacles of the Sixth Grade Orchestra.

The show featured separate performances by the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Grade Orchestras, then a combined Seventh and Eighth Grade Orchestra, and finally the Upper School Orchestra.
