Greenhills junior earns Joyce Ivy scholarship

Greenhills junior Caroline Randolph has been selected as one of only 80 students across the Midwest selected for a prestigious Joyce Ivy Foundation summer scholarship.

The scholarships are designed to encourage young women with exceptional academic and leadership potential to attend residential summer academic programs for high school students at more than a dozen highly selective colleges and universities around the country. Recipients typically receive support both from the Joyce Ivy Foundation and the host institution.

The foundation draws applicants from Michigan, Ohio, Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, and North and South Dakota. Partner institutions include Barnard College, Brown, Cornell, Emory, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Smith College, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Randolph, daughter of Greenhills English teacher Mark Randolph, was one of only 33 students across Michigan selected for the award, and the first Greenhills student ever to apply for the scholarship. She’ll be attending a special writing class at Brown University this summer.

Awardees will be honored May 10 at a reception in Ypsilanti  featuring a talk by the 2014 Joyce Ivy Foundation Leader of the Year, Lisa Payne, the vice chair and chief financial officer of Taubman. More information is available at www.joyceivyfoundation.org.
